Itinerary

Welcome to Vietnam! At noon you'll meet your guide in the hotel lobby, then you can explore the city. Before the town was officially founded in 1698 the Khmer controlled this region. The city became Europeanized during the period of French colonization in the 1860s, and it underwent yet another major transformation when it was inundated with American troops in the 1960s. In the 1990s Ho Chi Minh City became (and remains) the economic centre of Vietnam. There's plenty to see thanks to this city’s long and rich history!  Unterkunft imOvernight Stay
Today nature lovers can take a trip to the Mekong Delta Company (optional). If you spend the day in the city, you can visit the main attractions by going on a walk or run. In Chinatown you'll see many beautiful temples. Those who want to shop should take a stroll along Dong Khoi, Ho Chi Minh City's main shopping street. Here you'll find many bars, cafes, shops, and luxury boutiques. This road ends in front of the stunning Notre Dame Cathedral, another worthwhile and unexpected tourist destination. Other compelling attractions include the Reunification Palace and the Mariamman Temple. There are also several museums, such as the Ho Chi Minh Museum. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay    Verpflegung: Breakfast
Today you have another free day to explore Ho Chi Minh City. If you'd like, you can choose to take an optional excursion to Tay Ninh and Cu Chi. Tay Ninh is the centre of the colourful Cao Dai religion. In this extraordinary temple you can observe a fascinating ceremony every day at noon. From here you can also explore the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels. This is a branched tunnel system that was created by the Vietnamese people in the 1940s in order to defy the French colonialists and Japanese occupiers. These tunnels were later used by Viet Cong guerrillas during the Vietnam War. In the late afternoon you'll take the night train to Nha Trang. Dinner and breakfast can be purchased on the train. Unterkunft im Overnight Train   Verpflegung: Breakfast
In the morning we'll pick you up at the hotel and drive you 60 km north to Van Ninh. From there you'll take a 10 minute boat ride to Whale Island, a true paradise. Enjoy the white, palm-fringed sandy beaches, crystal clear water, and the relaxed atmosphere. Tonight you'll stay in bamboo huts with private bathrooms. The best season for swimming and diving is from February to October, and from April to June you can even see whales and whale sharks. Spend the rest of the day swimming and sunbathing. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay  Verpflegung: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
There are no scheduled activities today so you can spend your time as you please. Sunbathe, swim, sleep through the day, read a book in a hammock (relax!) ... If you prefer something more active, you can snorkel, dive, sail, or kayak. You can also take a scenic walk on the island, called ‘Hon Ong’ in Vietnamese, and watch the spectacular sunset. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay    Verpflegung: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
Today you must bid farewell to the paradisiacal island of Hon Ong. In the morning you'll take the boat back to the mainland, where you'll catch the bus to Hoi An. Unterkunft im Overnight    Verpflegung: Breakfast
Today you can explore Hoi An. You're now about halfway through Vietnam. Many visitors consider Hoi An to be one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam. Here you'll find the so called ‘tunnel houses’ - traditional narrow houses where merchant families used to live and sell their wares. You can still see the insides of some of these houses if you tip the owners. There's also a lovely Chinese temple and several meeting houses in the area that are worth seeing. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay    Verpflegung: Breakfast
There are no scheduled activities today so you'll have the whole day to explore Hoi An as you see fit. There are many activities to choose from. You can take a tour of the old town, visit the Japanese Bridge or the market, attend a traditional cooking class, or visit a museum. We recommend the Museum of the Sa-Huynh culture. There are also day trips available to My Son, a cluster of abandoned Hindu temples. These ruins were once the capital and religious centre of the Cham civilization, whose golden age was between the 10th and 11th centuries. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay    Verpflegung: Breakfast
Today we'll take you to Hué. On the way we'll stop in Da Nang, the third largest city in the country. Here you can visit the Cham Museum (optional). This fascinating museum has an impressive collection of Cham art and artifacts, including Buddhist altars, statues, and sculptures. You can also visit the famous Marble Mountains (optional), five limestone hills with caves and caverns that make up an important religious site. Then we'll continue our scenic drive along the cost to Hué, the final destination for the day. In this former imperial town you'll discover many well-preserved and carefully restored palaces and grave sites. The Forbidden City is a must-see attraction. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay    Verpflegung: Breakfast
The actual ancient royal city is located in the centre of Hué. In antiquity all four gates were used, but today's official access is the Meridian Gate. The royal tombs are also found near Hué. You can take a boat trip on the Perfume River to see these mausoleums and pagodas (optional). The Dong Ba market and the summer houses of Kim Long are also worth visiting. In the late afternoon you'll take the night train to Hanoi, the so-called "Reunification Express". Unterkunft im Overnight Train    Verpflegung: Breakfast
In the morning you'll arrive in Hanoi. There are many lakes integrated into the city. The Hoan Kiem Lake is an ideal starting point for exploring the old town. Here you'll also find the turtle pavilion, the Ngoc Son Temple, and the Thang Long Theatre. The Thang Long Theatre is particularly interesting and it's famous for its daily puppet shows. In the former French Quarter you'll see many charming colonial buildings. You should also visit the enormous Temple of Literature, a former centre for Confucian education. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay
Early in the morning we'll drive to beautiful Ha Long Bay. This is one of the highlights of the tour. The drive takes about three-hours but we'll stop and take a break for breakfast. Thousands of limestone cliffs and karst islands rise out of the water in this area, known as the ‘Bay of the Descending Dragon’. The name of this bay comes from an old legend that you'll be told on your tour. Part of the bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll take a pleasant ride on a traditional Vietnamese sailboat and spend the night on the ship. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay   Verpflegung: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
Today you'll wake up in the midst of a charming landscape in Ha Long Bay. Enjoy a nice breakfast, then return to the mainland where you will return to Hanoi. In the evening you'll take the night train to Lao Cai, located on the Chinese border. Unterkunft im Overnight Train  Verpflegung:  Breakfast
When you arrive in Lao Cai the first thing you'll do is visit the Saturday morning market in Can Cau. Most people who visit this market are members of the Hmong tribe so you can experience more of Vietnam’s cultural diversity while you shop. After the market we'll drive to Bac Ha where you can hike to a Hmong village or the old Hmong King Palace (optional) and will stay overnight with a local family near Bac Ha. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay Verpflegung: Dinner
The most famous weekend market in North Vietnam takes place in Bac Ha. People from diverse ethnic groups, including the Flower Hmong, Tay, and Nung people come here to sell their wares. After the market visit we'll drive to Sapa; this will take about three hours. Sapa is surrounded by rugged mountains, deep valleys, rice fields, and tea plantations. Sa Pa is located at the foot of the massive Lao Cai Mountain and is quite near the Fan Si Pan mountain. At 3143m, Fan Si Pan is the highest mountain in Vietnam. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay  Verpflegung: Breakfast
Spend the day as you see fit. Sapa, sometimes called ‘the city of sand’, was founded in 1922 by the French and used mainly as a summer residence. In 1979 the city was destroyed and then rebuilt. Today there are many hotels in Sapa where Vietnamese people from Hanoi often spend their winter holidays and Europeans vacation in the summer. The city is an ideal starting point for hikes. Sapa is built on a place that was formerly called the ‘love market’ – a gathering place where indigenous people used to come to find wives. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay    Verpflegung: Breakfast
If you're a nature lover or hiking enthusiast we recommend that you spend the 16th and 17th day of your trip hiking in the mountains around Sapa. Your experienced guide will take you through the mountains, past small fields, and through several quaint villages. You'll spend the night in one of these fascinating rural villages and arrive back in Sapa in the afternoon on the 17th day of your trip. If you don’t want to make the trek then you'll have another free day in Sapa. You can always take a walk up to one of the two lookout points in the city, from which you'll have a stunning view. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay    Verpflegung: Breakfast
Today is sure to be an adventure! In the morning you'll board a bus to the lovely city of Lao Cai. After you've seen the highlights we'll return to Hanoi for the night. There's still plenty to see in Hanoi, including the famous botanical gardens, the temples in the West Lake district, and numerous art galleries. Unterkunft im Overnight Stay   Verpflegung: Breakfast
Spend today as you please. There's lots to see and do in lively and beautiful Hanoi. You may want to visit the Ethnological Museum, where you can learn about the various ethnic groups in Vietnam. Around Saint Joseph's Cathedral you'll find plenty of shops where you can do some souvenir shopping. If you'd like to take this day to relax, there are plenty of great places to get massages, or you can take a city tour in a bicycle rickshaw. Unterkunft im Overnight Train    Verpflegung: Breakfast
Today you'll wake up in a truly breathtaking natural area. After breakfast we'll head back to the mainland amd then we'll drive you to the airport (departure should not be before 19:00 hours). We wish you a pleasant journey home!  Verpflegung:  Breakfast
