Puerto Maldonado - Custom Package
What to expect...
Puerto Maldonado was founded in 1902 after the Peruvian explorer, Faustino Maldonado, who discovered this land. Just 10 years later, this city became the capital of the region. Located where the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers cross, some of the best soil is found in this area. Despite the discovery of gold on the shores in the late 1970s, this city has remained rather small with about 57,000 inhabitants. Here you'll experience a great and rather untouched rainforest with diverse nature and wildlife. Enjoy this unspoilt nature and the sounds of the forest.
Today you will be arriving in Puerto Maldonado. You'll go from the airport to the office where all of your trip preparations into the forest will be arranged. Here you'll get some insight as to what to expect for the rest of your stay. Give yourself a bit of a rest before embarking on your boat ride to your rainforest accommodation. You'll eat some lunch as you travel on the Tambopata River. You'll settle into your accommodation located in the Tambopata reserve, and will head out later to the 30 meter high lookout tower where you'll get a great view of the rainforest tree tops. You may also be able to see colorful toucans, parakeets and macaws.
