Myanmar is often called the "pearl of Southeast Asia". It was an isolated area for many years and thus shunned by travellers; however now the area has become a major attraction and more and more tourists are discovering it each year. Its historical presence can be felt both in the temples and in the daily hustle and bustle of city life. The locals are very friendly, and because they love to practice their English, you may be able to speak with them along your journey. Visit ancient royal cities around Mandalay and Bagan, stroll over hills and past vast paddy fields, visit markets, meet traditional Burmese locals in full national dress and take a relaxing drift out on Inle Lake: Myanmar is waiting to be explored!

Itinerary

Welcome to Myanmar! Your journey begins in Yangon. The city was from 1885 to 2006 the country's capital. For the British colonial era, some houses and buildings have been preserved, which are partially restored. In the 1930s, more than 50% Indians lived in the city, and even today there are many of them. The main attraction of the city is also the most important Buddhist shrine in the country: the Shwedagon Pagoda. Over the centuries, the gold coated stupa rises 99 meters into the sky and is often called the crown of Burma. Around the stupa around there are some monasteries; many Buddhists make the journey to this holy site to hold worship sessions in and around the temple. Unterkunft imOvernight Accommodation
You’ll continue to explore Yangon on your second day in the city. For example you can take a walk through the old town, find some interesting shops in the market as you make your way from Bogyoke Aung San Road down to the beach. From there you’ll find City Hall and the Sule Pagoda and the Court over. Those interested in history can visit the National Museum. Those who like to tackle the journey quietly, may in the public park or at the Kandawgyi Lake relax (both entrance fee). In the evening, go to the bus station. On the next two days you’ll have time to explore the interesting city of Mandalay. Mandalay dominates as Burma’s most modern metropolis and is best viewed from Mandalay Hill, which rewards the 236 meters climb with a fantastic view of the city below. Another highlight of this city is the Kuthadow Pagoda and the world's biggest book which is written on marble tablets and contains Buddhist teachings escribed on them. The Palace is also worth a Visit, though only the eastern gate is accessible for tourists. If you want, you can take a boat trip to Mingun and take in the view as you cruise along the shore (optional).Unterkunft im Overnight Accommodation   
Today you might consider the Mahamuni Pagoda: Here you’ll most famous Buddha statue in the country. It is 3.8 meters high and is covered with gold leafs from worshipers. Around the pagoda there many small shops where you can buy souvenirs or crafts. You should also see the Sunset Point, a stop from which you can watch the hustle and bustle on the river as the sunsets. Nearby you’ll discover the small village of Se Yaik, where you can explore by boat (costs a small fee) if the mood strikes you, it’s well worth it. Your tour takes you into the daily lives of the people of Mandalay through an air-conditioned express bus to Bagan. The ancient city of Bagan was the capital of the then 849 year Bamar-Empire, but came to greater importance 200 years later. The temple complex covers 40 square kilometers surrounded by a savanna-like landscape. The more than 2,200 buildings protrude above the trees and offer a particularly breathtaking sight at sunrise and sunset, especially when the weather is slightly hazy or foggy. Earlier temples remain scattered around the site, however today the buildings are being restored or completely rebuilt; a strong testimony to the Buddhist faith. On day six you’ll can explore the temple and in addition you can explore stupas, monasteries, as well as shrines, libraries and ordinate halls. Over the centuries there have been various methods of construction, all of which you can see at the sites and with a guided tour you’ll learn how they relate to the stupas. You’ll then visit The Pahto, a walk-in Temple, home to various Buddha statues. In addition, you can marvel at some excellently preserved murals. When you first arrive in Bagan we take you immediately to some of the best sites in the area such as: Shwezigon, a gilded stupa completed in 1090, and Kyaukgu Umin, a temple built directly into a mountainside. Inside you’ll find a large statue of Buddha about 6m tall and passageways lead to meditation caves in the mountain. The magnificent temple is Ananda and in every direction there is a large room, each with a 10m high Buddha statue. If you have time, be sure to not miss the temple of Thatbyinnyu. Today you’ll drive by private bus, first to Mount Popa, a former volcano, which is 1518m high. Balanced on top of the rocky slop is monastery, a truly fascinating sight to behold. You can climb all the way up, however, please make a point not wear red, black or green clothing as it is believed that these colors disturb the spirits, and you can only go barefoot. The drive to Kalaw leads past chili fields and up into the mountains. The rest of the day can be used to explore the former British health resort, which lies at an altitude of about 1300m. Around Kalaw has to be the most ideal places to go hiking, so on this day you’ll take a day to hike to Palaung village. A local guide will accompany you and will tell you a lot about life and the traditional customs of the inhabitants of the village. The path takes you past rice fields and bamboo forests. The hike is included, but not mandatory. If you do not join the hike, you can spend the day in Kalaw.Unterkunft im Overnight Accommodation    Verpflegung: Breakfast
First stop of the day is Pandya’s limestone caves, which are a well-known Burmese pilgrimage (optional). Access is allowed only without shoes. Inside the cave system are more than 8000 Buddha statues of different materials. You have a little time to take in the unique atmosphere before it goes on to connect to Nyaung Shwe where you’ll find more dazzeling wonders to behold. The city is located in the north of Inle Lake and you’re able to a walk through the city or take a canoe trip through the canals.Unterkunft im Overnight Accommodation    Verpflegung: Breakfast
The Inle Lake, is surrounded by mountains, and it is the second largest lake in Myanmar, famous for its floating gardens. Here the Intha or "People of the Lake" live in tranquility right on the shore. You can take a boat trip on the lake and watch the daily life of fishermen or simply relax and let the lapping water put you into a meditative state. The picturesque countryside is well suited for hiking or biking, you can see on a tour of different pagodas and let the landscape work on you. Visit all the markets in one of the villages today. They can be found all over the village and they take place at all times over the week, however, these hours are not set in stone. The easiest way to reach the villages across the lake is by boat. Many locals come from far away to buy things in the market and or to sell their own goods. Also nearby Nyaungshwe there are hot springs that you can visit while on a hike. Today you wave goodbye to the Inle Lake and to make the journey to Heho. From there you will fly back to Yangon. Depending on the flight time you have in Yangon have time to spend the rest of day relaxing. You can stroll through the markets and buy a few souvenirs for loved ones back home. Or take a trip in the countryside to Twante, which is known for its pottery and weaving. For dinner, guests could in Karaweik restaurant with a terrace and you’ll have a beautiful view of the city before your finial day.Unterkunft imOvernight Accommodation    Verpflegung: Breakfast
Today is the last day of Myanmar and your trip has come full circle. Enjoy one last breakfast at the hotel before setting off to the airport. If you still have some time before your flight home, you can strip the last time through the streets of Yangon.
