Holguin to Santiago de Cuba & El Cobre

This tour will take you from Holguín to Santiago de Cuba, then onwards to El Cobre. Santiago is referred to as the secret capital of Cuba. Experience the colonial buildings and charm of Santiago de Cuba and marvel at the beautiful pilgrimage church of El Cobre as our guide shows you around.

      • The pilgrimmage church, Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre
      • Guided tour in Santiago de Cuba
      • The UNESCO World Heritage site, Castillo del Morro
      • Included Lunch

Your excursion begins with the journey to the Basilica of the Blessed Virgin, an important pilgrimage church in El Cobre, in the foothills of the Sierra Maestra. From here, it's not far to Santiago to Cuba. You'll first arrive at the Plaza de la Revolucion, a square dedicated to Antonio Maceo Grajales and used for majoy events. Afterward, you'll head to the Cemeterio Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, where many soldiers from the Cuban Revolution and independence wars are buried. Just outside the city, right on the coast, is the Castillo de la Roca, also known as Castillo del Morro. Explore the fortress that was built in the 17th century which protected the city against pirate raids before you taking a break for lunch. Then, stroll through the old town and admire the many colonial houses and cathedral at the Paré Céspedes. History buffs will be excited for the next stop: the Moncada barracks, used during the Cuban revolution. Today, there is a school and a museum there where you can learn more about the history of the site. After all of that, you'll still have time for individual explorations before returning back to Holguin.
