Sierra Maestra is one of the most isolated regions of Cuba. The rugged and sparsely populated mountain range is famous as Fidel Castro came here in December 1956 to build up his rebel army. The same mountains that housed his rebel camp also boast the highest mountain in Cuba. With a height of 1974m, Pico Turquino is an impressive sight.
