The history of Nha Trang
The history of Nha Trang goes back to around 192 AD; the area was originally under the reign of the Lin-Yi Kingdom until it became part of the Champa Kingdom until the 19th century. The Cham history is known for the rivalry between the Dua and the Cau Tribes which eventually ended when interbreeding began.
The Cham’s large population began to decline when the Vietnamese people started battling for supremacy in 1446. For centuries a war was fought until eventually the Vietnamese revolt was defeated but not before causing severe damage to the Cham population. In 1832, the area was annexed by Emperor Minh Mang and today only 77,000 Cham people remain.
Tourist attractions in and around Nha Trang
Nha Trang is a famous tourist destination and has been for quite some time but one of the other main attractions in the area is undeniably the Whale Island. While the Whale Island is home to a single resort, the island boasts breathtaking beaches, a sheltered bay and incredible opportunities for snorkelling, kayaking and wind-surfing. Until a few years ago the island was also known for its whale and whale shark sightings which have unfortunately become very rare. While the sightings may have ceased there are still a number of amazing marine creatures to be seen during diving or boat excursions.
If you would prefer to stay on Nha Trang then you will be glad to know that the island does also offer snorkelling excursions as well a number of land locked attractions to mesmerise you. Visit the Po Nagar hillside temple and embrace the beauty of a sight that looks to be straight off the silver screen. The Long Son Pagoda is also a Buddhist spectacle that should not be missed.
While lazing on the beach and sipping cocktails at sunset is an awesome experience you might want to consider the excitement of the Vinpearl Amusement Park, Aquarium and Water Park. This is guaranteed to be one attraction that will refresh and revitalise you!
