Ultimate Central America - Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica Group Tour Itinerary
Welcome to Guatemala! You will start your trip in the city of Antigua. Antigua Guatemala was the cultural, economic, religious, political and educational centre for the entire region until the capital was moved. Spend the early afternoon exploring on your own, before meeting with your leader in the late afternoon. You will spend your first night at the fabulous Posada La Merced or similar accommodation.
Today we will leave for Copán in the early morning to avoid Guatemalan traffic. Copán is a remarkable archaeological site in western Honduras, close to the Guatemalan border. Tonight you will stay at the vibrant Hotel Camino Maya or a similar accommodation.

Today you will have time to explore the city of Copan. Those who are interested may take an optional excursion to the Ruins. Copan is considered by many to be one of the most spectacular cities of the ancient Maya people. It flourished during the 7th century of our era and holds cultural significance similar to Athens. Enjoy another lovely overnight at the Hotel Camino Maya or similar.
Today we will travel to the Caribbean coast. We will take the ferry from La Ceiba to Roatan, the bay islands. Roatan history hold0s many surprises! When Christopher Columbus arrived at Guanaja of the Bay Islands in 1502 he feared an approaching hurricane and never set foot on Roatan. Small contingents of French buccaneers (pre-cursors to “pirates”) arrived on Roatan in 1510, and are the first known Europeans to have actually walked on the island. They spent some time at what is now French Harbor which is where the contemporary name comes from. Tonight you will stay at that quaint Hotel La Quinta Inn.

If you are up for an adventure we recommend a visit to the east end of the island to the largest of all the Bay Island beaches. The road changes from pavement to a mix of dirt and gravel, then it continues on to Punta Blanca and Camp Bay. A 4x4 vehicle is not required for the journey and you'll see many driving compact cars and scooters. This end of the island is home to many locals and has only a few resorts. It is also the location of the famous Tasty Tarpon restaurant. This is great place to being snorkeling, diving, and kayaking adventures etc. There are a few other interesting stops along the way such as Marble Hill Farms where wonderful local jams & jellies are made. Asylum bar & grill is on a palapa directly over the calm waters in Camp Bay – this can sometimes feel like the restaurant at the end of the universe! If you are looking to get off the beaten path and out of the tourist ridden West End, this is it. Spend your free time trying to delicious grilled foods that are so popular on the island! Return to the Hotel La Quinta Inn for a second evening.
Roatán is a world-famous destination for SCUBA diving and snorkelling. The coral reef here is home to sea turtles, dolphins, rays, hundreds of species of colorful fish, corals and sea-sponges. You can also explore the clear waters on a boat, kayak or paddleboard. Spend another great night at the Hotel La Quinta Inn.
This morning we will take a domestic flight to the city of Tegucigalpa, where a comfortable bus will be waiting to take us to Nicaragua. We are headed for the city of León. In León you will visit the ruins of the first Spanish colonial cities that were built in the continent, which have been preserved by the eruption of the Momotombo volcano. The elegant city of León has preserved its attractive historical center and colonial buildings. León has eight volcanoes, all of which are part of the 'Cordillera de Los Maribios'. The most interesting might be Cerro Negro, which is a young, small volcano that offers incredible views and slopes to practice snowboarding. León also has several beautiful beaches on the Pacific Ocean. Tonight you will spend the beautiful Hotel Los Balcones.

In the afternoon you will visit Granada, a town on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. This small town is rich in both nature and history. Here you will visit extinct volcano, elongated coasts on Lake Cocibolca (Lake Nicaragua), an archipelago, and the oldest city in the country, which still preserves original historic colonial center, are some of the attractions. Spent the night at the comfortable Hotel Cocibolca or similar.

The city of Granada is one of the most important and most visited destinations in Nicaragua. Granada’s many museums, galleries, hotels, restaurants, bars, and a spirited cosmopolitan atmosphere make this a must-visit destination. Here you can visit the Mombacho Volcano and the rare and exotic cloud forest that grows around it. Lake Nicaragua is a great place to participate in water sports or simply enjoy a refreshing swim. The enigmatic Zapatera Archipelago - which preserves part of its forest and an archaeological pre-Columbian treasure, is also situated on the lake. These are just of a few of the wonderful attractions that are found in the spectacular city of Granada. Tonight you will once again stay at the charming Hotel Cocibolca or a similar accommodation.
Today you have a free day to partake in activities such as surfing, fishing, kayaking, hiking, rappelling and stand up paddle-boarding, sailing at sunset, or yoga! This is also a great time to explore the city on foot. Tonight you will have accommodations at the beautiful Hotel Cocibolca (or similar).
Today you will visit Ometepe, a beautiful island in Lake Nicaragua. The name Ometepe means ‘two hills’ in the native ‘náhuatl’ language. The island measures 276 square kilometers and has two majestic volcanoes connected through a small strip of land. Ometepe is a remarkable little island with spectacular natural features, fascinating archaeological sites, and tranquil beaches. Tonight you will get to experience local life as you stay with a homestay family.

There are no activities scheduled for the day so you have the chance to participate in optional excursions such as climbing one of the two volcanoes on the island, viewing petroglyphs, hiking or kayaking in the Charco Verde reserve, swimming in clear spring-water at Ojo de Agua, or simply exploring the island on foot or by bike. Enjoy a second enriching cultural evening at a homestay.

Today we will say good bye to our new friends in Nicaragua and take the ferry back to San Jorge. From there we will take public buses to Peñas Blancas, the border Between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. We will finally arrive at the amazing cloud forest of Monteverde where you can experience monkeys, mist, and friendly locals. The town of Santa Elena is small and quaint, filled with tasty restaurants and folksy artisan shops, while the nearby rainforest hosts a remarkable variety of biodiversity. Look forward to a pleasant night at the handsome Hotel Historias Lodge or a similar accommodation.

Today we will take a van to Lake Arenal and then cross the lake in a boat before continuing on to La Fortuna, one of the main tourist destinations in Costa Rica and Central America. In addition to its major attraction, the Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna offers visitors a wide range of services and a variety of adventure activities to choose from! Tonight we will stay at the lovely Hotel San Bosco Inn.
